The multi-club wine/mead/cider competition will be held on October 13-14 at the Stone Cellar Brewery in Appleton. This contest is a joint venture of the ALEs, Central Wisconsin Draught Board, Rackers, SOBs and the Wausau Home brewer Organization.
Ed Mathis emailed to let us know that the First Annual Florence County Fair Homebrewing Contest will be held on August 26. Entries are due by July 31. for more information email Ed, since I don't think it's a good idea to post the coordinator's home phone number here.
I have nuked most of the email directory, except for the officers' addresses. The reasons for this are twofold: 1) It was very hard to maintain and was hopelessly out-of-date, 2) A lot of people complained about getting spam from it. If there is enough of a hue and cry, I'll try to find an alternate solution.
I hope that the rain holds off for the picnic today . . .

Congratulations go out to Ed Mathis, Jeff Trofka, and Jeff Wright for winning multiple awards at this year's State Fair competition! Ed capped everything off by taking home second best of show.
All scoresheets from the Titletown Open have been mailed out, except for the ones from Rackers members which will be brought along to the meeting today.
A joint meeting with the ALEs and other regional clubs will be held on Thursday, June 8, at 6:00 P.M. at the Stone Cellar Brewpub in Appleton to discuss the organization of a wine/mead/cider competition this fall. Mike Conard plans on attending.
Mike also sent along some links for what appear to be digital refractometers for brewers and wine makers. I haven't tried these things personally, so I cannot comment on their functionality.
Tickets have gone on sale for the Great Lakes Brew Fest in Racine on September 16. Get 'em while they're hot!

The Appleton Post-Crescent has the obituary for Bob Rowland available online. The funeral will be on Tuesday.

The Rackers have just received word that Bob Rowland, owner of Rowland's Calumet Brewery & Brewpub and organizer of the Wisconsin Microbrewers Beer Fest, passed away last night of an apparent heart attack. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, especially his wife, Bonita.

We had 110 entries in our Titletown Open competition yesterday. Our thanks go out to those who entered, organized, and judged for the competition! Congratulations go out to Trevor LaRene for his best-of-show-winning Eisbock! A complete list of winners is available for your perusal.

Tickets to the Great Lakes Brewfest go on sale June 1. The festival will be held on September 16.
I have finally updated our Local Water page. It now includes water analyses for eight different municipal water systems in our area. I also included instructions on how to get this information from the DNR website. Check it out and let me know what you think of the new look.
I also did some housekeeping on our Old News, but that's all behind the scenes.
