Before reading this update, I want everyone to sit down. Are you sitting comfortably? Right. I brewed today. Yes, I can almost hear the stunned silence out there. My starter took a while to get going so I postponed my brewing activities until today. Everything went shockingly well. I hardly had to recirculate at all. I hit my gravity right on the head. It tastes good too (for unfermented wort, anyway). It is indeed a Düsseldorfer Altbier!

Not to alarm anyone, but I just made a starter! If this thing actually takes off, there will be some altbier brewing this weekend!

Make sure you're getting your beers ready for the Titletown Open on April 28-29!

The Milwaukee Beer Barons with have their Milwaukee Monster Mash competition in conjunction with the Third Annual World of Beer Festival on May 6. Winning beers will be brewed at Milwaukee-area brewpubs. You could be, like, totally famous! For more details check the Beer Barons' website.

The Titletown Mug Club will be meeting on Monday, March 20, to vote on the mug design for the new mug club season. There will be free munchies and happy hour prices on beer all night.

The entry forms for the Titletown Open XII are now available for download! Beers must be delivered to Titletown by Thursday, April 27. Judging will be held on April 28-29. By popular demand, the People's Choice judging will return. Brewers who wish to take part in the People's Choice will need to submit two extra bottles. Get brewing!

Hey kids! Sorry about the mess. It's been a busy year so far for your faithful webmaster. Now that I've gotten the lame excuses out of the way, make sure to check out our January '06 newsletter, lovingly created by Ryan Loock and Chuck Golueke. Ryan also sent MASSIVE versions of all the pictures in the newsletter, which I'll do something with once I figure out exactly what.

Our thanks go out to Dan Rogers for volunteering to take the May club brew and to Chris Schroeder for being bold enough to brew with Mike Conard in September. March remains the only brewing date available. Interested? Email me!

This year the Great Taste of the Midwest will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2006. Anyone who wants to volunteer to work for two hours or so at the Great Taste in exchange for free admission should email our esteemed president as soon as possible.

Last, but certainly not least, the QUAFF competition will be held out in sunny San Diego on February 17-18. Entries are due by February 8. For more information, click on the link. As an aside, a little birdie told me that we may have some information on our own Titletown Open this week. Stay tuned!
