If you want it done right, you have to brew it yourself!
Old NewsJanuary through March 2002
gak sends word that well-known homebrewing author George Fix died on March 10 after a prolonged
battle with cancer. Our sympathies go out to those who survive him.
More contest information! This one is the brand-spanking new Upper Mississippi Mash-Out on April 27-28. Check the site for all the gory
details.
This is just plain wrong. Thanks, gak. I
think.
Congratulations, gak! I received email today that Richard "gak" Stueven is once again a
brewmaster and, even better, he won't have to move very far! He is now the brewmaster at Fox River Brewing in Oshkosh. Keep
an eye on the site for more details as they become available.
Due to the snowstorm, our club brew for today has been postponed. Our next meeting will be on
Saturday, April 6.
Don't forget that our club brew is this Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at the Musicians Union Hall. Be
there!
I also have some competition information to lay on you. Check the links for all the details. The
Palm Beach Draughtsmen will hold their annual Hurricane Blowoff Homebrew Competition on March
29-30. The Amber Waves of Grain competition will be on May 17-18. Don't forget
about our own Titletown Open on May 4!
Please note! Our club brew meetings will now be held on Saturdays instead of Tuesdays! Our meeting schedule page has been updated to reflect that change.
I have also posted the entry forms for our Titletown Open VIII homebrew competition. It will be
held on Saturday, May 4, at Titletown Brewing in Green Bay. What are you waiting for? Download the forms and get
brewing!
If you would like to get one of the personal breathalyzers (the ones on a keychain) that our esteemed president
demonstrated at our last meeting, please email our secretary, Mike Conard, as soon
as possible. They cost $20 each.
I was just informed that all the maps on our directions page are
screwed up because MapBlast changed their format. Plus, I believe they are going to a subscription service. I'll have to
see what I can do about it.
UPDATE! I have updated the directions page. There are no longer maps directly on the
page. You have to click through to MapQuest to get directions. It's not as cool,
but at least it works.
Don't forget about the club meeting at the Musicians Union Hall on
Saturday!
John Zutz sent along information on this year's Milwaukee Beer Festival and Homebrew Competition to be
held on Sunday, March 10. For more information, visit their website. Tickets
are $30 at the door, $25 in advance, or $20 if ordered in groups of six or more.
Mark May 4 on your calendar. That will be the date for our Titletown Open VIII. The exact location and starting time will
be announced at a later date.
Well, if you missed last night's club brew, you missed out on some seriously good beer. Bob
Franklin brought the last club brew batch which turned out very nicely. Fred Matzke brewed our second consecutive all-grain
club brew. I had some of my Alt along. A good time was had by all. Make sure to mark your calendars for next month's
meeting on February 2!
Happy New Year! Don't forget about our club brew next Tuesday. Fred
Matzke will be following in Bob Franklin's substantial shoes and making an all-grain batch. See you there!
In the "site management" category, I updated the Fire Brewing Webring code at the bottom of this page since Webring is yet
again changing hosts. Let me know if anything weird happens.
