If you want it done right, you have to brew it yourself!
Old NewsJuly through September 2001
Alas, poor Egan's, we hardly knew ye. Egan Brewing Co. 1996-2001. I'll
spare the editorializing other than to say that the sight of all those macro-brews on tap made me
want to vomit.
On a related note: our illustrious secretary, Mike Conard, sent an email out
announcing that the joint club meeting originally scheduled for next weekend has been indefinitely
postponed until we can find a suitable place to meet.
In an attempt to inject some levity,
gak sent along this
story about NASA's attempts to study beer and brewing in outer space.
The Madison Homebrewers and Tasters Guild is talking about making a trip
up to Egan's this Saturday. Rackers members are invited to join them in the partaking of a libation
or two (translation for Northern Wisconsinites: They'd like to drink a couple beers with
us.)
If you want to get a corny keg filled with Egan's beer, gak will be filling them until
Tuesday, the 25th. Make sure the keg is clean and sanitized and marked with the beer you want. He
believes the going rate is $40.
Wow, what an unbelievable week. I'm sure we'll all remember where we were
Tuesday morning. I added Old Glory to our nav bar in remembrance.
I know it almost sounds
disrespectful to mention this, but I also feel we cannot allow our lives to be altered by some
extremist nutjobs who are going to get a cruise missile to a very tender location. Yes, I'm feeling
just a smidge of hostility right now. The beer appreciation/BJCP classes will begin this Tuesday at
6:30 P.M. If you got the email from Mike, you're in! I look forward to seeing you there. We'll
drink a toast to our fallen countrymen and to the impending doom of the terrorists
responsible.
Those of you who subscribe to the Egan Brewing News already know the sad
news. As of the end
of this month, Egan Brewing Company will be no more. I'll spare you the editorializing for another
day. Check out gak's
final Egan brewing news here.
On a slightly happier note, in a
powerfully symbolic
gesture, gak has agreed to be our final club brewer at Egan's tomorrow. At the meeting we will
discuss where future
brews will be held (presumably at the Musician's Union Hall). See you there! Make sure to bring your
soon-to-be-a-collector's-item Egan's pint glass along. It is pint night after all
:)
OK, you give me no choice. I have to use the dreaded BLINK tag.
for the September club brew next Tuesday! Email
me ASAP if you are interested. Please, oh please, oh please.
OK, now that I've unscrewed up my Linux box I can actually update the
site! gak informed me that Adam at Titletown
has tapped a keg of last year's Titletown-Open-winning pale ale! As you may recall, the pub-brewed
version was overhopped. It'd be
interesting to see what a year of aging will do for it.
And we still need a brewer for
the September club brew on the 11th! Email me ASAP before I start crying like a
schoolgirl.
Chuck needs help! Chuck Golueke will be doing a brewing
demonstration at Heritage Hill this Saturday from
10:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M. He needs your help! If you are able to give him a hand for any part of the day,
please email him ASAP!
The Green Bay Rackers have been invited to Mead Day 2001 at Mike
Fairservice's place in Appleton on
Saturday, October 13. Taste commercial and homebrewed meads and learn how to make your own. For more
information, contact Mike Fairservice or Dave Weaver.
We need a brewer for our September club brew. Interested? Email
me ASAP! While you are deciding, you can check out the brand new Egan
Brewing News.
If you asked for directions to Chuck's place, Mike emailed them out
tonight. If you still need directions, you can
email me and I'll send them out as soon as
I can. See you there!
FREE BEER!
OK, now that I've got your attention, gak will be
tapping J&S Stout (the winner of our
Titletown Open) this Saturday at noon. Yes, it's the same day as the picnic, but as an incentive gak
is offering free pints to any
Rackers members! Just make sure to bring your membership card. No card, no free beer. Stop in before
the picnic for a pint! Also remember to
email Mike Conard by tomorrow if you
plan on going to the picnic so he knows
how much meat to buy.
We just renewed our domain name with Network Solutions for another five
years. Rackers.Org will be ours until at
least 2006! Is there anyone besides me who thinks that 2006 sounds longer than just five years
away?
Hey kids! There's a brand new Egan Brewing News
available for your reading
pleasure.
August's meeting will be a picnic/campout at Chuck Goluecke's place in
Abrams for members and their families.
Camping is optional. The club will provide brats and hotdogs. Please bring a dish to pass and some
homebrew. If you are interested in coming,
please RSVP to Mike Conard by July 31,
so he knows how much meat to buy.
Directions to Chuck's place will be sent via email.
Yes, the meeting next Tuesday is at 6:00 P.M., not 1:00 P.M.
Uffda.
