If you want it done right, you have to brew it yourself!
Strange Brew Review
The Newsletter of the Green Bay Rackers - - Summer 2000
April Meeting Minutes
With a very brief agenda for the meeting, the main item was to review the contest and make suggestions for next year. See the article on the contest later in this newsletter regarding details of that discussion.
The club has set the price for the used Sanke kegs at $25.00 per keg- with $10.00 for each keg sold going into the club treasury. Richard has agreed to let us keep about 10 kegs at a time in the storeroom at Egan's. Dan Rogers will pick them from Tosca as we need them.
The club set next club brew date for July 11th which is one week later than the usual club brew night (due to that being July 4th this year). Chuck Golueke has volunteered to be the brewmaster. The club also agreed to host the annual family picnic at the NEW Zoo. See the article later in this newsletter.
August Picnic
The club voted to have the annual family picnic at the NEW Zoo this year. John Parsons checked into the cost for getting one of the shelter buildings and it turned out to be cost prohibitive for the club, so we are going to have the picnic in one of the picnic areas across from road off of the main parking area.
The club will provide the meat as we have done in the past, consisting of bratwurst and hot dogs. Mike Conard will pick up the meat and par boil the bratwurst. Members who are attending should bring a dish to pass, their own dishes and flatware, soft drinks for their children, and of course some homebrew to share. I am also going to see if I can get Egan Brewing Company to fill a cornelius keg with some beer for the event.
I'll be asking members at the club brew to sign up for general categories for food to pass, so that we don't end up over-heavy on desserts and short on potato salad! I will be sending out reminder cards to all club members before the picnic. See you at the picnic!
Brew at Heritage Hill!
Chuck Golueke is looking for help on Sat, August 19th for a brewing demo at the Belgian Farm on Heritage Hill from 9 AM- 5 PM. Let Chuck or me know if interested.
Contest Issues
I am pleased to day that I feel the contest was once again a complete success! We were down a few beers this years, but the general consensus from the members at the club meeting was that Egan's was a perfect place to have the contest. Everything went smoothly with very few suggestions for changes for next year. These changes include:
- People's Choice will be an OPTION for entrants next year.
- Three (3) bottles per entry unless person wants to be in People's Choice - then they will need to send 6 bottles.
- Better way to keep People's Choice beers cool for sampling.
- We need a few more stewards for the People's Choice portion.
The People's Choice portion was the best it has ever been. We will keep the new balloting format and venue just as it is. It turned out to be a real good educational event.
One of the things I would like have next year is a bigger PR campaign prior to the event to get the public to attend. I think I will ask someone to serve as PR person for the contest next year. Look elsewhere here on the website for the list of winners!
